The city of Suez is located at the southern entrance to the Suez Canal in the east of the Nile Delta.
The city dates back to the 6th Pharaonic dynasty when the city was used to protect the eastern part of Egypt from invasions. These days Suez houses oil refineries and a major port. While the city itself has few tourist attractions, other destinations close by on the Suez Canal offer historic and fascinating visits. Take a boat tour on the canal to see all the sites. 1. Tanis & Suez Canal Full-Day Tour from Cairo
This day-tour on the Suez Canal takes visitors from Cairo to the ruins of the ancient city of Tanis, located in the Nile Delta. Tanis is believed to date back to around the 20th Dynasty and was home to Smendes, the founding pharaoh.
Tanis was Egypt’s political capital up until the 22nd Dynasty. After leaving Tanis, you will head to Ismailia, a city located on the Suez Canal, founded during its construction. There are several buildings of British and French origins and a relaxing atmosphere in what Egyptians call “The City of Beauty and Enchantment.”

The Suez Canal House is located in Port Said on the Suez Canal. The city was constructed just in time for the inauguration of the Suez Canal in 1869. The architecture of the building is attractive and is noted for its striking green domes. The Suez Canal House is not open to the public and can only be viewed from outside.
4. Port Said Military Museum
The Port Said Military Museum was created to commemorate the Battle of Port Said in 1956. The museum opened on 23 December 1964. One hall displays the history of Port Said and its origins and the history of the Pharoah in the region, while the other two halls are dedicated to weapons and photos relating to various wars.
5. Ismailia Museum
Opened in 1932, the Ismailia Museum houses around 4,000 artifacts dating back to the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman eras. Among the displays is a beautifully preserved Roman mosaic floor dating from the 3rd-century BC.
The building itself is styled with Greco-Roman architecture and is surrounded by a beautiful garden, containing various interesting statues and stelae.
